CPR COURSES 2012

New Course Guidelines and Formats are now in effect which have changed the way we deliver life support in Canada.

Overall, the objective of the changes is to improve the effectiveness of CPR.  The Courses are now focused on the delivery of skills and participants will perform the skills throughout the course, while following along with a DVD.  There is an increased emphasis on Compressions as research has shown fewer interruptions to compressions results in increased perfusion (blood flow).

Basic Life Support Guideline Update 2012

The Heartsaver level has been replaced with the Heartsaver AED course as the entry level of certification.  All participants are required to purchase an updated manual for their first renewal.  Thereafter, a manual need not be purchased until the next guideline change (usually every 5 years).

I continue to be available to conduct courses for groups and individuals at my residence High Rigg Retreat, which is located SW of Edmonton beside Blackhawk Golf Course.  Alternatively, I can travel to your office, facility, or space and conduct the course for your group.

Course Descriptions

Heartsaver (AED)

In this course, you will learn how to deliver CPR to adults and children (infant is optional).  You will learn how to operate an AED, and how to help someone who is choking.

During the course you will spend time practicing and demonstrating these skills, as well as complete a simple open book multiple choice quiz.

This is now the basic CPR course required for most fitness professionals.

Health Care Provider (HCP)

The new basic life support course for Health Care Providers will provide the knowledge and skills to enable you to save a life.  You will learn the skills of CPR and the use of AED.  You will practice CPR in a team setting.  The skills you learn in this course will enable you to recognize emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest, and to know how to respond to them.

Successful completion of a multiple choice test is required to obtain certification.
